Contracting and Subcontracting

The building process can be daunting to many potential homebuilders who are building a home for the first time. The homebuilder has several options.

  1. Build the whole house themselves
  2. Manage the whole process but subcontact the various trades to specialists
  3. Work with an construction consultant company like UBuildIt who will help with the process
  4. Contract with a builder to build the whole house.

Which option works best for you depends on a number of factors. If you have a lot of spare time, are good with your hands and have some physical strength, then you may be a good candidate to build the whole house yourself. If you have a good grasp of the trades involved and have management skills, then subcontracting may be the way to go.

The UBuildIt route is a great option for people who want to save money but don't have the confidence to go it alone. The folks at UBuildIt will consult with you all the way through the build process and will save you a lot of money over the final option, contracting with a builder to do the whole job.

Hiring a builder is the least stressful but most expensive way to build a home. If you can afford it, this is a great way to build your dream home.
